Determine whether the application is for a hazardous area or general area.
2
Select the cable type
Determine the type of cable you will be using, i.e. whether it is armoured or unarmoured.
3
Select the correct gland size
Determine the correct gland size by following the steps below, according to the type of cable you are using.
UNARMOURED CABLES
ALCUW
General Purpose Weatherproof Gland (IP66/68)
ALCHUW
Hazardous Area Weatherproof Gland AS/NZS 60079, AS/NZS 61241.1 (IP66/68)
(i)
Measure the Outside Diameter (OD) of the Cable.
(ii)
Select the gland having measured cable OD falling between the ‘OA’ maximum of Seal A
and the ‘OA’ minimum of Seal B (or Seal C where applicable); shown under cable details for
ALCUW and ALCHUW cable glands.
(iii)
Then select Seal A, B or C. For example, for a 15mm OD cable you would
select ALCUW25 with seal B (or ALCHUW25 with Seal B for Hazardous Area).
FOR ARMOURED CABLES
ALCAW
SWA General Purpose Weatherproof Gland (IP66/68)
ALCHAW
SWA Hazardous Area Weatherproof Gland AS/NZS 60079, AS/NZS 61241.1 (IP66/68)
ALCHAW-B
SWA Explosive Area Barrier Gland AS/NZS 60079, AS/NZS 61241.1 (IP66/68)
(i)
Measure the Outside Diameter (OD) of the Cable.
(ii)
Measure the Overbedding Diameter of the cable (Diameter under armour).
(iii)
Select a cable gland having the measured cable OD falling between the ‘OA’
minimum and the ‘OA’ maximum of Seal A (and B where included).
Ensure the overbedding diameter is within the specified range shown under the
cable details column. For example, for an ‘OB’ diameter of 31mm and an OD of 41mm you would select
ALCAW40 (or ALCHAW40B for Hazardous Area).
(iv)
Ensure armour size lies within the specified range.
